Civil Beat will hold a live interview with the Sou brothers today (Tuesday) at noon. Civil Beat has been sympathetic to the argument that the Sous were victims, a view expressed by the defense attorneys at a press conference held at their farm after the dismissal of the federal case against them due to prosecutorial error.

Mike and Alec Sou lived for two years accused of luring 44 Thai workers to Hawaii and forcing them to work in inhumane conditions.

The question of whether the Thai workers were indeed forced to live and work in inhumane conditions has largely not been explored. It would have come out had the trial proceeded. Some describe the Sous as having been exonerated by the dismissal, but in fact they are presumed innocent, not found to be innocent. Their case was not tried in court.

So what about justice for the farm workers? How do people without power get their day in court?  It appears that they will have to wait for the filing of a civil lawsuit against the Sous. They have not had the opportunity of a live web interview to tell their stories.

On Friday (8/5/2011), their attorneys gathered a group of workers to hold a press conference which was well attended. The workers faced a battery of TV cameras and noisy still photographers.
