Will an Interpol arrest warrant grab Cheney first or Assange? You guess.
by Larry Geller
AFP reports that Nigeria intends to charge former vice president Dick Cheney with bribery involving Halliburton. This would result in an Interpol arrest warrant, similar to the one that WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange now faces.
It appears the Nigerians are moving on the investigation:
Authorities also raided Halliburton's office in Lagos last week and detained 10 people -- eight Nigerians and two expatriates -- who have since been released as investigations continue. Documents were taken as well. [AFP, Nigeria 'to charge Dick Cheney' over alleged bribery, 12/2/2010]
Presumably Cheney could not use his vice-presidential privilege to defend against prosecution because the charge would involve his role as CEO of Halliburton, which was earlier.
Still, what are the chances the US would turn this guy over to Nigeria?
Will Cheney ever have to face the music for anything he might have done? Would our President-who-looks-only-forward-and-never-looks-back actually obey an Interpol arrest warrant for Cheney? Fat chance.
That’s not the way the world works. Our part of the world, anyway.
Cheney will join Kissinger in being able to visit only Taiwan, Tonga, Kiribati and a few of the other countries from the Coalition of the Willing.
