Obama’s deal screws low income families, Dems rebel

Was Obama’s tax deal necessary?
What was a president doing negotiating taxes anyway—that’s a function reserved to Congress.
At this writing, it appears that Congress, basically, his own party, may not go along with it. Even MoveOn has deserted him, so the anger at granting tax cuts to the rich must be running both wide and deep.
But did he at least get us a good deal? Not necessarily. By “us” I don’t mean the billionaires. How about a family struggling in this recession with low income caused by job loss?
They will pay more.
In fact, the only groups likely to face a tax increase are those near the bottom of the income scale — individuals who make less than $20,000 and families with earnings below $40,000. [New York Times, Tax Package Will Aid Nearly All, Especially Highest Earners, 12/7/2010]

Somewhere in the not so distant past I remember a guy raised in Hawaii telling us he represented "change we could believe in". After viewing this so called change for the past two years I can only conclude it was just a slogan.
