What I want is the same rights as a corporation

So long as they incorporate (or act in the form of a trust), businesses will now be free to trade in or exploit slaves, employ mercenary armies to do dirty work for despots, perform genocides or operate torture prisons for a despot's political opponents, or engage in piracy – all without civil liability to victims.

The decision in Kiobel v. Royal Dutch Petroleum marks the first time that any appellate court has rejected corporate liability under international law, and only the second time that any court has done so (the first was in a district court decision issued last week). …   [earthrights.org, U.S. Court Finds Corporations Immune From Liability For Human Rights Abuses, 9/17/2010]

It’s been a long day, so forgive me if I ask you to please click on the article link to read about this in full. (thanks to Viviane Lerner for pointer to this article).

Comments:

This ruling makes complete sense as long as it only affects someone else. I wonder how those justices would have voted if a foreign corporation tortured one of their kids and made them a slave. This ruling doesn't pass the common sense test.

This is only one of many dominoes that will fall after the SCOTUS' decision in Citizens United.

It's only a matter of time before -- as with SkyNet in "T3" -- corporations become self-aware and we are reduced to "Matrix"-like energy generators living in a corporate programmed reality.

Seriously.
