Indictment – forced labor conspiracy—first hearing is Wednesday
by Larry Geller
Below is a copy of the unsealed indictment of Mordechai Orian and others. A custody determination (whether to keep him locked up) will take place on Wednesday 9/8/2010 at 11:00 a.m.in federal court before Magistrate Judge Leslie E. Kobayashi. It’s expected that the feds will ask that he be kept locked up as a flight risk.
The defendant has entered a plea of Not Guilty. Jury Selection and trial are set for 11/3/2010 at 09:00 a.m.before Judge Susan Oki Mollway, but since things happen before trial, that date may slip.
Anyone can attend the hearings at the Federal Courthouse. Although there is plenty of seating, this is a high-profile case and it could be crowded. There’s convenient parking at the attended Makai Parking Lot, which for some reason is mauka (not makai) of Family Court and diagonally opposite the federal courthouse. Its advantage is that it’s not necessary to run out to feed a meter.
(Thanks to attorney Clare Hanusz for background and pointer to information and docs)
