It’s not just Wikileaks that leaks, so does your Android phone

by Larry Geller

Did you know that your Android phone, and possibly even an iPhone, can and may be sending sensitive personal data about you to third parties? Yes, there’s an app for that (no joke). Here’s one example:

Up to four million consumers of Android phones have downloaded wallpaper apps that take personal data from the phone and transmit it to a Chinese-owned server. A pair of developers created more than 80 wallpaper apps, including "callmejack" and "IceskYsl@1sters!" that have accessed personal data. One application sent data to a Web site in Shenzhen, China.   [Online Media Daily, Mobile Apps Leak Consumer Data, 8/2/2010]

If you own one of those phones (although potentially BlackBerry and Symbian phones could be affected as well), better check out that article.
