Legislative Auditor Marion Higa on Town Square Thursday
by Larry Geller
Tune in to Hawaii Public Radio’s Town Square program tomorrow, Thursday, 4/1/2010 5 p.m., for an hour with Legislative Auditor Marion Higa. 89.3 FM or streaming from hawaiipublicradio.org. It’s a call-in program, which means you can ask your own questions if you call early.
If you’ve been keeping up with the news, you know that our governor isn’t too happy having her stuff audited. One Star-Bulletin story begins
Gov. Linda Lingle is swinging back at Marion Higa…
Host Beth-Ann Kozlovich will discuss more than the current administrative mudslinging of course, but it is sure to come up, given the gov’s attempt to take down this well-respected public servant.
When I worked for GE, we welcomed auditors, who were professionals and highly experienced. It wasn’t a question of not getting caught so much as validating that you are doing the job right. Of course, if something were seriously wrong, kiss that promotion goodbye. If your operation proved it was fiscally sound, the sky was the limit (well, you also had to be an aggressive white male over 6’ 3” tall. But I digress).
Since we believe in citizen government, anyone (actor, wrestler…) can win an election. It’s a grab bag. Without professional oversight, it’s hard to imagine that we could govern ourselves at all.
Tune in tomorrow for a chance to learn about the job, the controversies, and also to call in and ask your questions.
