Our Lt. Governor misses the points, both of them
by Larry Geller
Today’s Advertiser breaking news reveals that Lt. Gov. Aiona will propose a constitutional amendment to establish an elected Secretary of State to administer elections.
As the Advertiser noted, the office of elections was created by the Legislature to avoid the conflict in having an elected official in charge of elections. That conflict is what Aiona wants to reestablish.
Besides, that’s not our problem right now. What’s stopping the elections is bumbling or poorly chosen budget cuts.
So Duke, how about urging Gov. Lingle to restore the 94% budget cut so the Office of Elections can get on with the work of setting up Hawaii’s special, primary and general elections?
