“Friends, Beltwayans, countrymen: I come to bury health care”
by Larry Geller
Another parody today. This one is about Joe Lieberman and is both clever and scary:
Friends, Beltwayans, countrymen: I come to bury health care, not to praise it. The evil that men do lives after them, the good is oft interred with their bones. So let it be with health care. Ambition for reform should have been made of sterner stuff, and liberals have lost their reason. Behold, for I am your new leader! [firedoglake.com, Late Night: “Look Upon My Demands and Despair!”, 12/14/2009]
A box on the same web page urges readers to write to Susan G. Komen for the Cure to right a peculiar wrong, though the target is Lieberman’s wife and not Lieberman himself:
Donations to find a cure for cancer should not be used to pay the salary of former insurance and drug lobbyist Hadassah Lieberman, wife of Senator Joe Lieberman (I-CT), who is pledging to kill health care reform while millions go untreated.
If you follow the Internet news, you may have read that the White House and Lieberman have arranged for our healthcare hopes to be dashed. Yes, Rahm Emmanuel and Leiberman conspiring against the public interest:
Emanuel, President Obama's chief of staff, has long been identified as leading a faction of White House advisers who have been pushing the Senate simply to pass any health care bill, no matter how weak. [Huffington Post, Rahm Emanuel Personally Pressed Reid To Cut Deal With Lieberman: Sources, 12/14/2009]
It’s disturbing to me that this has to be attributed to unnamed “sources,” but there you have it for what it’s worth.
