Saudi torture tape hits ABC News, CIA torture tapes were conveniently destroyed
by Larry Geller
I read the description of the torture carried out by Saudi Sheikh Issa bin Zayed al Nahyan, brother of the country's crown prince, Sheikh Mohammed, here, and then watched the video. I suggest you also do it in that order, because the printed text covers material that ABC could not show on TV. Watching the video first could make you too sick to read the full story.
The man who brought the tape out of Saudi Arabia said he was also tortured, and that the US embassy did not intervene. ABC reports that Secretary of State Clinton has not yet agreed to investigate:
Following an ABC News investigation last night that showed a Royal Sheikh from the United Arab Emirates mercilessly torturing a man with whips, electric cattle prods and wooden planks with protruding nails, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is being urged to initiate and carry out an investigation into the sadistic torture tape.
…
[Rep. James] McGovern [co-chairman of the House Human Rights Commission], who repeatedly referred to ABC News' investigation on Nightline and was interviewed for the initial story, said the existence of the torture tape requires the U.S. to take action. [ABC, Clinton Mum on UAE Torture Tape, 4/23/2009]
Yes, the US should take action.
But what hypocrisy.
The US should also take action against its own acts of torture, far exceeding, in its breadth, the horrible treatment shown in the video obtained by ABC.
Someone, somewhere, is going to point this out. I mean, besides me.
The CIA tapes depicting their own acts of torture were conveniently destroyed (see this document). Imagine if they were not, and one ended up on TV somewhere in the world.

There’s no need to compare this act of Saudi torture with what the US has been doing on a grander scale to innocent civilians. Both are wrong and should be investigated and prosecuted. To investigate only the incident revealed in this tape and let our own criminal acts go unpunished will not escape the world’s notice.
Watch America, this is what happens when freedoms are gone and the goverment takes over. But wait there's good news, Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior will make it right. All will be held accountable to him, including the rulers in Saudi.
