Trial of 26 CIA agents underway in Italy
Twenty-six Americans are on trial in absentia in Italy for a kidnapping. The news is big in Europe. Here's International Herald Tribune coverage of today's events: Lawyer: Defense in Italy CIA case requests Berlusconi, Prodi as witnesses.
Background:
[A terror suspect,] Abu Omar, was abducted from a Milan street in February 2003.
The alleged kidnapping was part of the CIA's so-called extraordinary renditions program — moving terror suspects from country to country without public legal proceedings.
You can follow this if you wish via Google News. Don't look for much blow-by-blow coverage in American newspapers, though the AP is covering the story.
